CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The Woolworth Sit In From 1960
On February 1, 1960, four black men staged a sit in at a Woolworth counter waiting to be served. Franklin McCain and three other freshmen from the local university sat at a whites only lunch counter at the Woolworths in Greensboro, NC. An older white woman was sitting nearby made an encouraging statement to the young men. She says, Boys, I am so proud of you. I only regret that you didnt do this 10 years ago.
The Greensboro four were refused service that day, but they stayed there much to everyones amazement.
This one protest, which led to others in more than 100 cities in 1960, lives today in a Greensboro museum built in the former Woolworth store where four young college students made history.

AWALK DOWN MEMORY LANE
For the remainder of the school year we will be taking a walkd down "MEMORY LANE" flashing through the years of the "GREAT CHIPPEWA HISTORY."
On to the 1968-1969 School Year
The Principal of Chippewa Middle School was Mr. Andrew Pochodylo.
The message in the yearbook from the principal was as follows:
I have in my office some famous sayings: A person who shows promise has learned how to keep them. Success comes in cansfailure comes in cants. Reputation helps you get a job. Character helps you keep it. Better to cause happiness where you go than to cause happiness when you go. Chippewa students can be proud of their promise, success, reputation and character. Together they spell happiness.

Lets Take a Look Back to the Year 1969

   • The first man is landed on the moon on the Apollo 11 mission by the US and Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin become the first humans to set foot on the Moon and the famous words Thats one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. will become mart of our history.

Fashions reflected the anti-war sentiment with military jackets adorned with peace signs, and other trends including long unkempt wild hair and headbands showed the feelings of anti establishment felt by the youth.
