Chippewa PTSA News (2006-2007) The PTSA welcomes you to another school year, thanks returning parents and staff for your past support and we look forward to getting to know our new parents and staff. PTSA at the middle school level has its differences from that at the elementary school level, but the ways you can support the school through PTSA remains the same. Here’s a reminder of some of the ways you can help: ~Click Box Tops for Education from hundreds of General Mills products and the school earns 10 cents for each Box Top. ~Save Campbell Soup Labels for Education and the school earns points to purchase a variety of educational merchandise and software. ~Designate Chippewa to receive funds from Target Take Charge of Education school fundraising program and every time you shop with your Target card, our school earns 1% on purchases at Target and 1/2% on purchases at other stores. ~Sign up for Meijer Community Rewards program and designate Chippewa #684699 to receive funds from your purchases. You can do this online (or with an application available by the PTSA bulletin board in the office.)
Additional Ways to Help the PTSA:
~Shop at Carter’s IGA and save receipts for Community Cash rewards. ~Sign up for Gordon Food Service Fun Funds program and designate Chippewa Middle School to receive funds. ~Save your used printer cartridges, which we send to recycling companies for cash. ~Purchase a PTSA membership to show you support our efforts. The advisory class with the most memberships by the end of the membership drive will earn an ice cream party. ~Support fundraisers. ~Be considerate of the Rec Night Program drop-off and pick-up times and try chaperoning at one or more of the school’s Rec Nights.
Also available in the school’s main office are flyers on ways you can help at the school and membership forms. If you have any comments or questions about any of the above, please feel free to contact President Julie Lusk(987-4229).

PTSA meets the third Thurday of every month and immediately follows the Parent Advisory Meeting, which begins at 7:00 p.m. The first meeting of the school year will be Thursday, September 21, 2006. This is a great way to learn what's happening in our school and the challenges being faced as well as the upcoming school calendar. It also is a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow parents and become familiar with the school and administration. We hope to see you there.

Thanks to our Rec Night Volunteers for the Past School Year
With our last Rec Night for the school year behind us, I would like to take the opportunity to say thanks to the many who have made Rec Nights possible this year. Whether you chaperoned only once or became a ‘regular face’, I hope you were able to see why Rec Night is such a worthwhile program. Any where between 100 and 225 students attend Chippewa Rec Nights and can be found playing volleyball, basketball, air hockey, ping pong, pool cards, chess or a board game, or just hanging out with friends in a safe and supervised environment. Given this number of students in attendance, it might be surprising that we still have difficulty getting the advance commitment from at least 20 chaperones to meet the minimum needed . This past year, we didn‘t get that minimum on two occasions, which led to cancellation since without this minimum number of chaperones, we feel we cannot assure the safety and security of our students. As one of several outgoing 8th grade parents having been involved with Rec Night for three years, I’d like to see the Rec Night Program stay viable. So PLEASE consider chaperoning at least one Rec Night next year, especially if your child(ren) attend. Thanks again to all those volunteers who helped with this program.
Karen Lee, 2005/2006 PTSA President and Rec Night Coordinator
