NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POLICY TO BEGIN SECOND SEMESTER
   Beginning second semester of the 2002/2003 school year a new Middle School Attendance Policy will go into effect. The new policy is being implemented to promote regular and punctual attendance among all Middle School students. The general guidelines are as follows:
Minimum Attendance:
   No more than five (5) days absence will be allowed per card marking period. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Principal to review the records of those students who have absences in excess of the number permitted.
Reporting Absences:
   For an absence to be excused, the parent/guardian must notify the attendance office of the absence in person or by phone no later than the end of the day of the absence. Students will be allowed to make up work, however absence will count toward the limit.
   If the absence is not reported by the parent or guardian prior to the end of the day of absence, it becomes an unexcused absence. This also counts toward the five day limit, but the student will not be allowed to make up class work. The student may also be subject to disciplinary action for truancy.
Parent/Guardian Notification::
   Based upon the five day maximum per card marking, the following procedure will be used to notify parents of attendance concerns:    Five or more absences during a card marking period will generally result in the student's failure to earn a passing grade in individual classes.
   Please review this policy with your child. If you have any questions regarding the new Attendance Policy, contact the school office. Working together we can enable our students to obtain the maximum benefit from our school's education programs through regular attendance.
