CHIPPEWA MIDDLE SCHOOL
1949-2010

    What does "BRAVES" stand for?

        B-Bright: intelligent, cheerful
R-Responsible: able to fill one’s obligation, trustworthy
        A-Amicable: friendly and social disposition
        V-Veracious: truthful, honest
        E-Extraordinary: notably unusual or exceptional
        S-Savvy: practical know-how

As we leave Chippewa Middle School at the end of the school year, let us carry these virtues wherever we go.

Let them show through in your actions and daily activities. Always do your best, be your best, show your best to those you come in contact with each and every day.

    My Chippewa Story
    by Andy Pochodylo

The doors of Chippewa Middle School will soon be closed to end an era of an outstanding educational facility that served thousands of students for the past 60 years.
When the closing of Chippewa was announced, I felt great pain and it won’t go away.
I am reminded of the expansion of the school from the original structure of the Chippewa wing, office, teachers’ room, and cafeteria compared to our present facility. . .12 additions were added.
For the staff, teaching was much more than a job. It was an opportunity to work with students in an atmosphere that stressed respect, appropriate behavior, friendliness and helpfulness. Teachers were encouraged to teach children rather than just subject matter. Together we developed an effective educational climate that has grown though the years.
I have nothing but praise for the fine supportive staff I had the pleasure to work with….administrators, teachers, counselors, secretaries, custodians, para pros, food service staff, parents, bus drivers, and other support groups. They were the greatest and dedicated to give their best to create the pleasant homey climate we all enjoyed.
Students were encouraged to participate in school activities and leadership roles. The opportunity to compete with students from other schools was exciting. We learned good sportsmanship and experienced competition, how to win and how to accept defeat. It was fun to participate at other schools and rewarding to receive recognition for our efforts. It was an honor to be a Chippewa Brave and to wear blue and white school colors. The bands and choirs entertained us throughout the years with outstanding performances.
I feel extremely fortunate to have been a part of the Chippewa Story for 44 1/2 years. The rewards are many and I will always cherish the memories. Thank you Chippewa for allowing me to be a part of you.
